Digitalisation, a Strategic Step towards Maintaining Javanese Culture

Malang, DREAMSEA – “After the manuscripts have been digitised, I intend to set up a transliteration and translation program”, said Lulut Edi Santoso, the owner of dozens of manuscripts in Javanese in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Preserving the Wealth and the Variety of Balinese Ancient Society

Denpasar, DREAMSEA – In 2019, our mission to preserve manuscripts in Southeast Asia started in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. The mission took place from 10-15 January 2019 and aimed to preserve the palm-leaf manuscript collection of I Made Kajeng Waras Himawan Suweca by conserving and digitising them. Preserving Diversity in The Manuscripts of Pangeran Madrais

Kuningan, DREAMSEA – The last mission to be executed in 2018 is the preservation of the manuscripts written by Pangeran Madrais in Kuningan, Indonesia. The target of this mission is to preserve at least 13.760 manuscript pages which will be done from 12 to 31 October 2018. Preserving 8,775 Palm Leaf Manuscripts in Lao PDR

DREAMSEA, Luang Prabang – The mission to preserve Southeast Asian manuscripts is continued on Mainland Southeast Asia. From September to December 2018 DREAMSEA will be digitising a large number of manuscripts from a monastery in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. A 6.5 Meter Long Indramayu Manuscript to be Digitised

DREAMSEA – Indramayu, Preservation of manuscripts as cultural heritage through the transfer of digital media continues to Indramayu. In collaboration with Sanggar Aksara Jawa Kidang Pananjung (SAJA) is currently digitising a 6.5 meter long daluwang manuscript stored in the ancient site of Geusan Ulun in Indramayu, Indonesia. “This manuscript contains a local history genealogy written in Javanese in pegon script,” said Ray Mengku Sutentra, the leader of SAJA. Digitising Manuscripts, Giving a Boost to Reconstruct Local History in Kuningan

Kuningan, DREAMSEA – The manuscript digitisation mission is still in progress. The DREAMSEA team is currently digitising five manuscript collections in Kuningan, West Java, Indonesia. This mission began on 7 September 2018, members of Masyarakat Pernaskahan Nusantara (Manassa) are very much involved in carrying out the mission that targets to digitise approximately 7,000 pages from 30 bundles of manuscripts. 6,000 Pages of Ancient Manuscripts Undergoing Preservation in Buton

Bau-bau, DREAMSEA – Preservation of approximately 6,000 pages of the La Ode Zainu collections in Buton island of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia is currently being carried out through digitisation mission of the DREAMSEA Program. This initiative took place between 24-31 August 2018 and was led by Mr. Hasaruddin, M.Hum, whom is a lecturer in history education at Dayanu Ikhsanudin University. La Ode Zainu was priest of the Buton Palace mosque in 1985. The manuscripts were a legacy from his mother, Wa Ode Alhifa. Preserving OKI’s Manuscripts, Safeguarding the Ancestor’s Mandate

Ogan Komering Ilir, DREAMSEA – The first mission of digitising the Southeast Asian manuscripts has officially been implemented. The DREAMSEA team digitised more than 60 manuscript bundles in Ogan Komering Ilir (South Sumatra, Indonesia) over the course of 4 days from the 13th to the 17th of August 2018. It is estimated that from this mission more than 2500 manuscript images will be produced.
