Overview

The manuscripts are currently housed in Vat Maha That Rasabovoravihan, which is among the oldest monasteries in Luang Prabang city. These manuscripts bear witness to the fact that the monastery had served as a hub of religious scholarship, festivals, and rituals in the past, where people could engage in social events and pursue studies and meditation. The texts contained in these manuscripts comprise of various Buddhist teachings, tales, chronicles, ways of earning merit, prayers, white magic, vinaya rules, and medicinal knowledge, written in Pali, Lao, and Lue languages, and inscribed in Tham Lao, Lao, and Tham Lue script.
